pH, alkalinity or calcium: which balancer do I need?
pH is low: Leisure Time Spa Up and FROG JumpH are granular pH increasers. Softcare by Softub pH Up raises both pH and total alkalinity.
pH or alkalinity is high: Leisure Time Spa Down, FROG DropH and Softcare by Softub pH Down each lower both pH and total alkalinity.
Alkalinity is low: Leisure Time Alkalinity Increaser, made with 100% sodium bicarbonate, and FROG TArget raise total alkalinity, which helps keep pH from swinging.
Calcium hardness is low: Leisure Time Calcium Booster, FROG SooTHe and Softcare by Softub Calcium Increaser raise calcium hardness.
All in one box: the FROG Balancing Basics Kit includes DropH, JumpH, TArget, SooTHe and StoMPS non-chlorine shock, plus FROG VIP membership.
Target ranges are printed on each product label and differ a little by brand, so use the range on the label and from your spa manufacturer. Always follow the directions on the product label.

Hot Tub pH & Water Balancer FAQs
Check total alkalinity first. When alkalinity is low the water has no buffer and pH swings, so raise alkalinity, then fine-tune pH.
Proper total alkalinity helps prevent rapid pH fluctuation, which makes every other adjustment easier to control.
Yes. Leisure Time Spa Down, FROG DropH and Softcare by Softub pH Down are each made to lower both pH and total alkalinity.
Overly soft water can contribute to equipment and surface problems and may contribute to foaming. A calcium hardness increaser brings low hardness up into the recommended range.
No. Add gradually according to the label, let the water circulate, and retest before adding more.
The Softcare by Softub line has its own pH Up, pH Down and Calcium Increaser, and their product pages list the gallon sizes of Softub models to help with dosing.
