Filter Friday is the first Friday of every month. It’s the day your hot tub filter gets two minutes of attention, and the one day a month the code FILTERFRIDAY works at checkout.
Why a filter day
The number one cause of hot tub freeze damage is a dirty filter. A clogged cartridge also makes the pump and heater work harder than they were built to, and that is how a $40 part ends up costing you a $400 one. Most owners don’t forget on purpose; they just never pick a day. So we picked one.
The two-minute Filter Friday check
- Pull the filter. Turn the spa off at the panel first.
- Rinse between the pleats. A garden hose works; a high pressure nozzle gets deep into the folds. Work top to bottom, all the way around.
- Look it over. Torn or flattened pleats, cracked end caps, or gray that won’t rinse out mean the cartridge is done.
- Soak it when it needs it. Rinsing clears debris; it does not remove body oils and lotions. A soak in a filter cleaner every month or two restores the flow. A second set of filters lets one soak while the other runs.
- Reinstall it. Dry end caps, snug but not forced.
How old is your filter?
Filters don’t last forever. Most cartridges are good for 12 to 24 months of regular use; a spa that runs hard, or one that skipped a few Filter Fridays, wears them out sooner. If the pleats are damaged, heavily discolored, or the water just isn’t clearing the way it used to, it is time for a replacement.
