Artesian Elite Heaters

Artesian Elite heaters are matched by control generation — the 2019+ flo-thru heater lives inside the spa pack, the 2013–2018 Platinum Elite used a separately mounted remote heater — and “no heat” is not always the heater, so diagnose before you buy.

Artesian Elite Heaters — Match by Generation & Mounting

Two heater designs cover the Balboa years. Artesian Elite 2019 and newer uses a flo-thru heater assembly mounted in the MBP spa pack (5.5 kW on 60 Hz spas; a 3 kW version on 50 Hz export spas), secured by a heater union split nut. Platinum Elite 2013–2018 used a remote heater — a separate assembly plumbed away from the BP Platinum pack and wired through a heater daughter board and a heavy-gauge heater cable. The two do not swap; a Platinum Elite that moves to the Artesian Elite pack gets the pack’s built-in heater. Gecko in.therm heaters on 2007–2012 Platinum Elites and the Laing heaters before them are no longer made.

Honest truth before you order: a spa that will not heat is often a flow problem, a sensor or a board rather than the element. Artesian Elite panels say so — “heater is dry” and “heater may be dry” messages mean the heater did not see enough water (low level, dirty filters, a closed valve or trapped air after a refill), and the system will not fire the heater until the heater pump moves water through it. Clear the flow fault first; if the message returns with good flow, then the heater, sensor or board is in play. Tell us the exact message in the form and we will help you rule things out.

When a heater does fail early, water chemistry is the usual culprit: low pH and scale attack elements years ahead of schedule. Protect the new one: Water Care & Sanitizing | Fresh Filters

Artesian Elite Heaters FAQs

The Balboa flo-thru heater for the MBP spa pack — 5.5 kW on North American 60 Hz spas and 3 kW on 50 Hz export spas — plus the heater union split nut and gaskets if yours are crusted or cracked. It is the same assembly across all five models; confirm voltage and frequency from your pack label, not the model name.

On the 2013–2018 Balboa BP Platinum system the heater was not inside the pack: it mounted separately in the equipment bay and connected through a heater daughter board and a 10-gauge heater cable. If your Platinum Elite still runs its original pack, you replace the remote heater; if the pack is being replaced with the Artesian Elite pack, the new pack’s built-in heater takes over and the remote heater is retired.

Not by itself. The control disables the heater when it does not sense enough water moving through it and shuts the spa down for 15 minutes (or until you reset the message). Check water level, clean or replace the filters, open any closed valves and bleed trapped air by loosening a pump union a half turn after a refill. If the message returns with the spa full and flowing, then the heater, temperature sensor or board needs a look — send us the message and your pack label.

No — the Gecko in.therm heaters of that era are not in the factory listing, and a different heater will not talk to that pack. Because the pack, panel and heater are one system on those spas, the fix is a control system upgrade that includes the heater. Send your pack label and equipment-bay photo and we will spec what fits.

✅ Not Sure Which Heater Fits? Verify Before Ordering

Artesian Elite part compatibility varies by model year, serial number, control system generation, voltage and heater revision.

To help us identify the correct replacement, please send clear photos of:

  • Your heater assembly and its label
  • Your spa pack label
  • Your spa serial number sticker
  • Any message code on your display
