Not getting four months out of it? Lower your filtration run time, or test for phosphates. Phosphates should read 0–300 PPB — they feed algae, and algae burns up bromine. If your bromine keeps testing low, test phosphates before adding more cartridges.

Four months at normal bather loads in tubs up to 500 gallons: swap a bromine cartridge every 2–4 weeks, leave the mineral cartridge in for the full four months, and shock monthly.
Heavy bather load, long filtration cycles, or phosphates. Phosphates are algae food and algae consumes bromine — keep them at 0–300 PPB with a phosphate remover like SeaKlear PhosKlear, then re-test.
