Body oils, lotions, cosmetics and detergent left in swimwear all lower the water’s surface tension, and the jets whip it into foam. Low calcium hardness and old water make it worse. Defoamer clears the symptom instantly; shocking regularly, rinsing swimwear without detergent, and purging the plumbing before a refill fix the cause.
Follow the label dose for your spa size using the bottle’s ounce markings — a little goes a long way, and overdosing any defoamer can leave residue that ends up in your filter.
