TidalFit Heaters

TidalFit swim spa heaters are matched by control system (Gecko on WaVS-equipped spas, Balboa otherwise), kilowatt rating and line frequency — and the owner’s manual’s own fault messages say “no heat” is a flow problem first, so diagnose before you buy.

TidalFit Heaters — Match by Era, Kilowatts & Frequency

Heaters for TidalFit match to your control system and the kilowatt rating on the heater label. A spa built with the WaVS swim system runs Gecko controls and takes the Gecko heater; a spa built without WaVS runs Balboa, and for those the parts books (2013–2021) list a 5.5 kW Balboa heater as the standard North American unit, a 3 kW heater for 50 Hz export spas, and from 2018 a 5.5 kW Waterway titanium heater. The same model year can be either system, so read the spa pack label, not the calendar. Earlier manuals list higher-kilowatt options on some configurations, so read the rating on your heater before assuming 5.5 kW. The union split nuts, temperature sensor and hi-limit sensor assemblies are listed alongside the heaters.

Honest truth before you order: the owner’s manual’s heater messages — heater flow problem, “heater may be dry,” “heater is dry,” “heater is too hot” — are flow and sensor faults. The control only heats when a pump is moving water through the heater (the 2-speed pump 1 or the circulation pump), so a dirty filter, an air lock after a refill or a tired circ pump produces every one of those messages with a perfectly good element. Clear the flow, then the sensors, then the heater. Tell us the exact message in the form and we’ll help you rule things out first.

When a heater does fail early, water chemistry is the usual culprit — low pH and scale kill elements years ahead of schedule. Protect the new heater: Water Care & Sanitizing | Filters

TidalFit Heaters FAQs

Match your control system and the kilowatt rating on your existing heater’s label. Balboa-equipped TidalFits (spas ordered without WaVS) take the Balboa 5.5 kW heater (24-0216-08) or, from 2018, the Waterway 5.5 kW titanium heater (24-1520-48); 50 Hz export spas take the 3 kW Balboa (24-0218-08). WaVS-equipped spas run Gecko and take the Gecko heater. Send a photo of your heater label and spa pack label and we’ll confirm.

5.5 kW is the standard North American rating in every TidalFit parts book and on the Gecko heater fitted to WaVS-equipped spas. The 2012 owner’s manual also lists 5.5/11 kW and 3.0/8.5 kW options on some configurations, and export 50 Hz spas run 3 kW — so check the label on your heater assembly rather than assuming. The control panel’s system info screens also report the programmed heater kilowatt rating on Balboa packs.

Probably not yet. “Heater may be dry” (M028), “heater is dry” (M027) and “heater is too hot” (M030) are the control protecting the element from low flow or a bad temperature reading. Check water level, clean the filters, purge any air lock and confirm the circulation pump is moving water; if the message stays with good flow, the water temperature sensor or hi-limit sensor is next. A heater that trips the GFCI is the case that usually is the element.

Both appear in the TidalFit books for Balboa-equipped spas — the Balboa 5.5 kW through 2021 and the Waterway 5.5 kW titanium from 2018 (a WaVS-equipped spa takes neither; it runs the Gecko heater). They are not a free swap: the mounting, unions and sensor fit of your pack decide it. Photograph your existing heater assembly, its label and the pack it bolts to, and we’ll match the one that drops in.

TidalFit swim spas are 240 V systems on a 60 A Class A GFCI breaker (the 2021 manual specifies a Siemens 60 A GFCI), with the heater on service line L1. Export spas are 50 Hz and use separate international heaters, packs and pumps. If your GFCI trips the moment the heater calls, that’s the one symptom that points at the element itself.

✅ Not Sure Which Heater Fits? Verify Before Ordering

TidalFit heater compatibility varies by control system (Gecko or Balboa), model year, serial number, kilowatt rating, line frequency and pack revision.

To help us identify the correct replacement, please send clear photos of:

  • Your heater assembly label
  • Your spa pack label
  • Your spa serial number sticker
  • Any message on your display
