Island Spas Topside Control (2007–2012) – Balboa VL802D Replacement

The original topside control for 2007–2012 Island Spas is discontinued, and so is the drop-in panel Balboa made to replace it. This genuine Balboa VL802D is the remaining plug-in option: our distributor lists it as a replacement for the original Island Spas control, and it comes with its 8-button overlay already included.

The catch is size. This panel is larger than the original, so it is an electronic replacement, not a drop-in. Plan on checking your cutout, and possibly enlarging it, before you install.

Compatibility & Installation

  • Fits Island Spas (2007–2012) that use the original Balboa button topside
  • Model: Balboa VL802D, LCD display, 8 buttons
  • Panel size: 10-5/16″ × 4-5/8″ (10.3″ × 4.6″)
  • Cable connection: 8-pin phone-jack style plug
  • Overlay buttons: Time, Mode, Warm, Blower, Light, Cool, Jets, Jets

Measure first: measure the opening in your spa’s acrylic and compare it with the panel size above. If the opening is smaller, it will need to be enlarged for this panel to sit flat. Send us your measurements and a photo and we’ll help you decide before you order.

Check your button layout: the included overlay is labelled for two jet pumps and a blower. If your spa is set up differently (for example, three jet pumps), send us a photo of your current overlay first.

Before you start: turn off power at the breaker. The topside unplugs from the circuit board inside the spa pack. If you’re not comfortable working inside the spa pack, hire a qualified spa technician.

Common Symptoms of a Failing Topside

  • Display is blank, dim or fading
  • Buttons don’t respond, or only some of them work
  • Panel is cracked or has water behind the overlay

A bad circuit board or a damaged cable can cause some of the same problems, so check those before replacing the topside.
