Island Spas Control System Parts — Diagnosis & Fitment Guide

This is the hub for everything that runs your Island Spa: control panels (the display and buttons on the top rail — also called topside controls), circuit boards, spa packs, and daughter boards. Start with the symptom. If the display is dead, dim, or the buttons stopped responding, you most likely need a control panel or overlay. If the spa won’t heat, won’t power up, trips the breaker, or throws error codes, start with the circuit board or spa pack.

Island Spas control systems changed by era: 2007–2012, 2013–2018, 2019–2024 touch screen, and the 2025+ Gecko systems on redesigned models. Parts may not interchange across eras even when the spa model name is the same. Not sure which era you own? The fastest check is your filter compartment: classic models use a two-filter pair; the 2025–2026 redesigns use tall filter(s) under black lid(s) and run Gecko controls. You can also compare your spa against the current models on our Island Spas hot tub pages — if yours looks like those, you’re on the new side of the split.

Island Spas Control System Parts FAQs

Every Island Spa through the 2024 model year uses Balboa-based controls. The redesigned models — Captiva, Antigua, Grand Cayman, and Grand Bahama starting in 2025, then Isla Margarita, Bimini, Santa Cruz, and Nevis in 2026 — switched to Gecko systems. Because both versions were built concurrently for months, don’t go by year alone: check your filter compartment. Tall filter(s) under black lid(s) means Gecko; the classic two-filter setup means Balboa.

Rule of thumb: if the problem is what you see and touch — dead or scrambled display, unresponsive or mushy buttons, peeling button surface — it’s the control panel or its overlay. If the problem is what the spa does — no heat, no power, tripped breaker, error codes with a working display — suspect the circuit board or spa pack. Send us photos through the form below and we’ll help you pin it down before you buy either.

The spa pack is the complete control enclosure inside the cabinet — the box that houses the circuit board, connections, and on most systems the heater assembly. If your board is damaged along with the enclosure or heater, replacing the whole pack is often the cleaner repair than board-only.

Look for the serial number sticker near the equipment door at the base of the cabinet, or inside the equipment area itself. A photo of that sticker plus a photo of your control panel is the fastest way for us to confirm exactly which control system parts your spa takes.
