The control system is the electronic heart of your Tropic Seas spa — the circuit board and spa pack in the equipment bay, and the topside control panel you press buttons on. Tropic Seas Spas are built by Artesian Spas on Balboa-based control systems, so replacements are identified by your spa’s model year and the label on your existing part, with board and topside generations changing between production eras.
Not sure which component failed? A completely dead spa or stuck relays usually point to the circuit board or pack. Buttons not responding or a blank display with the spa otherwise running usually point to the topside. The buying guide below walks through the diagnosis.

Circuit Board, Spa Pack, or Topside — Which Do You Need?
These components work together but fail independently:
- Circuit board — the “brain” in the equipment bay controlling heat, pumps, and relays. Replaceable on its own when the enclosure and heater tube are still good.
- Spa pack — the complete assembly: board, enclosure, terminals, and heater tube. The cleaner fix when the heater tube or enclosure has failed. Tropic Seas spa packs are stocked in the Circuit Boards category.
- Topside control — the panel you press buttons on. A bad topside can mimic a bad board, so diagnose before ordering.
Quick Diagnosis Before You Order
- Completely dead spa — check the breaker and GFCI first; if power is good, suspect the board or pack
- Blank or garbled display, but pumps and heat still run on schedule — suspect the topside or its cable
- Buttons unresponsive or requiring hard presses — topside
- Pumps won’t turn on, relays stuck or chattering — board
- No heat or flow errors — could be the board, a sensor, or the circulation side; rule out a dirty filter and low water first
The fastest confirmation for topside-vs-board is checking the cable connection at both ends, then testing with a known-good topside if one is available.
Repair finished? A drained spa means a fresh startup — stock up on water care before you refill.
