Balboa Jet Pumps

Shop Balboa Jet Pumps for Hot Tubs and Spas

Balboa jet pumps drive the water flow behind your spa’s jets. When a pump hums but won’t start, trips the breaker, leaks at the wet end, or gets loud with grinding bearings, a replacement pump is usually the fix — and matching the right specs matters more than matching the brand name on the motor.
Jet pumps are specified by speed (1-speed or 2-speed), voltage, amp draw, frame size (48 or 56 frame), and plumbing size at the intake and discharge (commonly 2 inch). Two pumps that look identical can differ in amp rating and wiring, so confirming your existing pump’s specs from its motor label is the key step before ordering.

✅ Not Sure It Fits? Verify Before Ordering

Jet pump compatibility can vary by speed, voltage, amp draw, frame size, wet end orientation, and plumbing size.

To help us identify the correct replacement pump, please send clear photos of:

  • Your pump’s motor label showing volts, amps, and speeds
  • The wet end and plumbing connections
  • Your spa serial number sticker

EZ Hot Tub Parts can help confirm fitment before you order and help reduce costly returns.

How to Identify Your Replacement Jet Pump

Before ordering, check the motor label on your existing pump for:

  • Speeds — 1-speed or 2-speed
  • Voltage — 115V or 230V
  • Amp draw — high and low speed ratings (e.g., 12.0 / 3.5 amps)
  • Frame size — 48 frame or 56 frame
  • Intake and discharge size — commonly 2″ — and wet end orientation (side vs. center discharge)

Your control system must also support the pump configuration — a 2-speed pump requires a board and topside set up for 2-speed operation.

1-Speed vs. 2-Speed Pumps

A 2-speed pump runs low speed for filtration and heating circulation and high speed for jets. A 1-speed pump only runs full power, and is typically used as a secondary jet pump on spas with a separate circulation pump. Replace like-for-like unless you’re certain your control system supports a change.

Common Signs of a Failing Jet Pump

  • Humming without starting — often a failed start capacitor or seized shaft
  • Grinding or screeching bearings
  • Leaking at the wet end or shaft seal
  • Tripping the breaker on startup or under load
  • Weak jet pressure with a clean filter and open valves

Balboa Jet Pumps Frequently Asked Questions

Match the motor label on your existing pump: speeds, voltage, amp draw, frame size, and plumbing size. Those specs matter more than horsepower claims.

Frame size refers to the motor’s physical mounting dimensions. A 56 frame motor is larger than a 48 frame, and the two are not interchangeable without changing brackets and sometimes the wet end.

Sometimes. A hum often means a failed start capacitor or a seized shaft. If the shaft won’t spin freely by hand with power off, replacement is usually the practical fix.

Only if your control system supports 2-speed operation on that pump circuit. When in doubt, replace like-for-like or verify fitment first.

Use the fitment verification form on this page and send photos of your motor label, wet end, and plumbing. We’ll help confirm the correct pump before you order.
