Strong Spas used four cartridges, and the bottom of the filter tells them apart: a coarse 1-1/2″ thread on a 6″ body (the common one), the same thread on a small 4-5/8″ body, a female thread recessed inside the bottom (Teleweir), or no threads at all (drop-in).

Strong Spas filter buying guide

45 sq ft coarse thread (EZ11). 6″ across, 8-1/4″ long, handle top, 1-1/2″ coarse SAE thread. The standard Strong Spas cartridge and a very common filter across brands (Pleatco PWW50P3, Unicel 6CH-940, Filbur FC-0359). Stocked in Hurricane, made in the USA and ProAqua.

20 sq ft coarse thread. Same 1-1/2″ thread on a 4-5/8″ body, 8″ long — the cartridge Pleatco lists for Futura Spas by Strong Industries (PSANT20P3, Unicel 4CH-925). Shop it here.

Teleweir 25 sq ft (EZ29). 4-15/16″ across, 13-1/2″ long with a 1-1/2″ female thread recessed inside the bottom (Pleatco PWW25L, Unicel 4CH-926) — the skimmer-weir style also used by Arctic and Coyote spas. Shop EZ29.

Drop-in 50 sq ft (EZ04). Open both ends, 13″ long, sits in the well under a lid (Pleatco PRB50-IN, Unicel C-4950). Shop EZ04.

Strong Spas filter questions

Which Strong Spas filter replacement do I need?

Measure across the end cap. A 6″ cartridge with a 1-1/2″ coarse thread is the EZ11; a 4-5/8″ cartridge with the same thread is the 20 sq ft; a 4-15/16″ cartridge with a female thread hidden inside the bottom is the Teleweir EZ29; open at both ends with no threads is the drop-in EZ04.

Do Strong Spas use a 50 sq ft filter?

The common Strong cartridge is rated 45 sq ft (EZ11) and is often called a 50; the true 50 sq ft Strong filter is the open-ended drop-in EZ04. Match by size and end style, not by the square-foot number on the label.

Is the Strong Spas filter a screw-in?

Usually yes — the EZ11 and the 20 sq ft cartridge both screw into the well with a 1-1/2″ coarse thread. The Teleweir EZ29 threads in from inside its bottom, and the EZ04 drops in.

How often should a Strong Spas filter be replaced?

About once a year with monthly cleaning. The EZ11 is inexpensive and stocked here, so most owners keep a spare set and rotate.
