Most 2017-and-newer Master Spas run a two-part filter: a pleated outer filter with an EcoPur Charge mineral core inside it — and many models add a separate stand-alone filter in its own housing. Count your filters and check for the orange core before ordering.

To confirm the correct replacement, send clear photos of:

  • The label or end cap of your current filter
  • Your spa serial number sticker
  • The filter well with the filter removed (so we can see the fitting)

Master Spas filter buying guide

The EcoPur Charge two-part system (2017 and newer). A pleated outer filter slides over an orange EcoPur Charge mineral core. The outer filter comes in two sizes: the taller PMA-R1 for Twilight Series (TS 6.2, 67.25, 7.2, 7.25, 8.2, 8.25, 8.3, 8.35, 87.3, TS 240), Michael Phelps LSX 700/800/850/900, H2X Therapool and the 2023 Legacy Whirlpool; and the 35 sq ft PMA-R3 for Clarity (Precision 67/7/8, Balance 6/6 CS/7/8/9), Healthy Living, and some H2X Therapool and Twilight builds. The core is the same part in both and Master Spas recommends replacing it every 6 months; the outer filter once a year.

The stand-alone filter. Twilight (TS 6.1 through TS 87.3, TS FIT, TS MP), Michael Phelps Legend and H2X Therapool spas add a 40 sq ft cartridge with a 2″ male fine thread in its own housing, separate from the EcoPur pair. It is the well most people forget when they order “a set.”

Before 2017. Older Master Spas used a 35 sq ft cartridge with a female coarse thread (our EZ23 — ProAqua / Darlly) or the 35 sq ft drop-in (EZ03 — ProAqua / Darlly); both drop-ship from US warehouses.

Skimmer and swim-spa wells (not the EcoPur pair). Master Spas models with the Teleweir skimmer well take the 50 sq ft inside-thread EZ05 — stocked in Hurricane (USA-made), or ProAqua / ProAqua antimicrobial. Many H2X swim spas with the front-access skimmer take the 45 sq ft 1-1/2″ coarse-thread EZ11 — stocked in Hurricane, or Darlly. Reusable branded Master Spas Ego3 canisters fit both: cartridge #5 for the Teleweir well and cartridge #2 for the coarse-thread well.

2025 and newer. Master Spas introduced new outer filters and small adapters in 2025. The adapters let a 2024-or-older spa use the 2025 filters — and once fitted they usually stay, so a used tub may take 2025 filters even though the serial says otherwise. If your outer filter does not match the pictures above, send a photo.

Skip the mineral core. The EcoPur Charge core is a mineral sanitizer. Owners running FROG @ease get the minerals from the floating system and only need the outer filter, which cuts the yearly filter bill roughly in half.

Master Spas filter questions

Which Master Spa hot tub filters do I need?

Count the filters in your spa. Two nested parts (a pleated outer with an orange core inside) is the EcoPur Charge system — tall outer is the PMA-R1, shorter 35 sq ft outer is the PMA-R3, and the core is the same for both. A separate screw-in cartridge in its own housing is the 40 sq ft stand-alone. A single female-thread 35 sq ft cartridge with no core means a pre-2017 spa (EZ23).

How often should Master Spas filters be replaced?

Master Spas recommends a new EcoPur Charge core every 6 months and new pleated outer and stand-alone filters once a year, with a rinse every 2–4 weeks and a monthly soak in filter cleaner.

Do I need the EcoPur Charge core if I use FROG @ease?

No. The core is a mineral cartridge; the FROG @ease floating system supplies its own minerals, so @ease owners replace only the outer filter and the stand-alone filter.

Is there a cheaper replacement for the Master Spas filter?

For the EcoPur outer filters and core there is no aftermarket copy that includes the core receptacle, so those stay genuine. The stand-alone 40 sq ft well takes the reusable Ego3 #3 canister, and pre-2017 spas take ProAqua or Darlly cartridges at a fraction of the OEM price.

What is the difference between PMA-R1 and PMA-R3?

Both are EcoPur Charge outer filters that take the same core. PMA-R1 is the taller cartridge for Twilight, Michael Phelps LSX, H2X and Legacy Whirlpool; PMA-R3 is the 35 sq ft cartridge for Clarity, Healthy Living and some H2X and Twilight models. Measure the length of your current outer filter if you are unsure.
